Man Keeps Daughter in Cellar for 24 Years, Fathers 7 Children
Oh what horrors exist behind closed doors…
A “psychologically and physically disturbed” 42-year-old Austrian woman has been rescued, after being kept in a windowless basement cell for almost 24 years.
Her father, now 73, has confessed to imprisoning his daughter in the cellar of his home and raping her repeatedly–resulting in seven children. When one of them died, Daddy Dearest incinerated the child’s body to dispose of it.
Josef Fritzl forced his daughter, Elisabeth, and three of the children he’d fathered (Kerstin, now 19; Stefan, now 18; and Felix, now 5) to live in the cellar, while the other three kids were allowed to live upstairs with Mr. F. and his wife.
The cell, built by Mr. F., is made of reinforced concrete, has a sound-proof door, and locks with an electronic entry system. Neither his daughter, nor her three imprisoned kids, ever saw the light of day the entire time they were in captivity. But, I have to admit, I’m surprised at how pretty the cell’s bathroom looks in this photo.
Elisabeth says her father began sexually abusing her when she was 11; and, in 1984, when she was 18, he drugged her, put her in handcuffs, and locked her in the basement.
Mr. F’s wife, Rosemarie, claims to have had “no idea” these atrocities were going on right under her nose. They adopted three of Elisabeth’s children, when Mr. F. told his wife his missing daughter had dropped them off at the house because she was unable to care for them.
This horrific situation came to light, when Elisabeth’s daughter, Kerstin, fell unconscious and was taken to the hospital by her grandfather/father. Police were called when an SOS note from Kerstin’s mother was found hidden on her body. The media then issued a bulletin requesting any information about the girl or her missing mother. Shortly thereafter, Mr. F. released Elisabeth and told his clueless wife that, after having vanished for 24 years, his daughter had suddenly returned home with two of her kids.
When Mr. F. brought Elisabeth to the hospital to discuss Kerstin’s condition with the doctors, authorities were notified.

All i have to say is if the wife did not know –Thank god he got caught because they would have all starved to death in that basement when Josef F died
What in the world would was that guy thinking? There are a lot of sick puppies out there, but that one tops all i’ve ever heard before! How are the children, including the Elisabeth, suppose to live in society? The way children tease each other now days is unreal, my heart and prayers go out to those that were wronged by Josef, including his wife (as long as she had no idea, which i can believe).
Everywhere I read, it says the Rosemarie, the wife of the evil. Is she the biological mother of Elizabeth?
Hassan: Like you, almost every article I’ve read refers to Rosemarie as the evil one’s wife. I have seen her referred to as Elisabeth’s mother in one or two articles, but don’t know whether she is her biological mother or not. I will investigate further.
The way a father abused her daughter and forced her to do sex may be the worst one in the world. peoples will lose trust on guys even as a father. we must hate that dirty man and his dirty job. god will protect every girl from that type of sin.
Actually, Bashir, since “god” did not protect Elisabeth at all, what makes you think “god will protect every girl from that type of sin”?
Precisely, Anita. It’s things like this that shake my faith. Rosemarie is referred to as “The wife of evil” Fritzl, being undeniably evil, that cellar was a version of hell, where God could not reach. God can only act through other people. As mentioned above by Bill; “Thank god he got caught because they would have all starved to death in that basement when Josef Fritzl died.”
My question is this: Does not incest produce mentally and physically handicapped offspring? That news hasn’t been revealed yet. All of their other conditions are results of captivity.

The rest of their lives I hope this family, with the exception of Josef, has an abundance of love and blessings. Elisabeth and her 3 children literally lived in hell. May they now have heaven twice–on earth and in Heaven. This man is truly EVIL.
I just want to love and shield these people for the rest of their lives. I hope they will heal and live somewhat normal lives eventually. May Josef burn in eternal hell.
I don’t believe his wife new nothing of this. Did Mr. F & Rosemarie ever have any chlidren together? Or did they just use his daughter to give them children? I’m sure she had to have seen him leave with food, etc. for Elizabeth & the children.
well if we’re going to get into the topic of God then to reply to CW, when you said God could not reach that cellar..thats not true. God can reach all places. He just allows certain things to happen so our faith could become stronger in him.
Ashley: How could you possibly have “faith” in someone who would knowingly allow such atrocities to occur? If your omniscient god “can reach all places,” then he’s more heinous than Josef Fritzl himself.
Anita: It is people like you that allow these things to happen! By making such comments about God and your lack of faith your type allow Satan to get a stronger hold on others such as Josef. God did not promise an easy life nor did he promise to stop bad things from happening. What he did promise was that if you believe in him and his son Jesus Christ you will have everlasting life. I for one am proud of my God and have complete faith that Josef will answer for his sins just like Elisabeth and her children will be taken care of for the injustices they have had to endure. They will be in my prayers as will you.

Anita, Mythology is that you answer for life? If there is no GOD then what? There has to be evil in the world for goodness to rise, the only diffrence is the anount of evil. And that depends on each person, Mr.F shurly didn’t have fath in god or he wouldn’t have done what he did. I just hope you find your befor its to late May GOD bless you!
hello my name is Elena excuze my english i am from Romania and i heard about that evil guy. this is simpli horible,here in Romania wee have all kinde of bad people hoo kill just 4 a piece of bread but wee never heard about somthing like this before. this kind of things make u wander if its worted to make cildrens or just live alone all life. i have 2 boys twins and now i am afraid to let them home witt my husbant. iesterday i askt him to go to a psihiatric test, and by the way Ashely there is no God!!! this could not hapent if there whos a God. and the hell its here on earth

But why are you afraid to let your twin boys be alone with your husband? Has he already hurt you or the boys in some way? Physically? Sexually? Emotionally?
I think we are all getting off the topic. This isn’t a religious debate. Whether or not “God” was involved or let it happen or doesn’t exist. This horrendous thing happened.
I feel badly for Elisabeth, and can’t imagine what she went through. Growing up I experienced mental, physical and sexual abuse from my own mother and yet I still can’t imagine what she went through and what her children went through as well.
How are they going to handle reuniting with their biological siblings and mother (both Elisabeth and Rosemarie)? There must be some resentment. I just hope that they are not made exhibits of by all this publicity.
What I would really like to know is if someone has taken action to help them out in some way like monetarily to pay for medical bills, a job for Elisabeth, rehabilitation for her and her children. More than debating whether or not there is a God and praying in our comfortable homes we need to take action and help them.
