75-Pound Stingray Leaps from Water: Kills Woman on Boat!

Now this is freaky!

A 55-year-old Michigan woman was sunbathing on a boat in the Florida Keys, when a 75-pound stingray leaped from the water and killed her!

An autopsy is being performed to determine whether the woman died from the stingray’s blow to her head, from being pierced by the creature, or from falling backward.

I had absolutely no idea stingrays were so large. I’ve never seen one in my life, and (dont’ laugh… okay, you can laugh) I always thought they were about the size of starfish!

Man, was I ever mistaken!

According to National Geographic.com, stingrays live from 15 to 25 years, can grow up to 6.5 feet in length, and can weigh up to 790 pounds!

So, I guess, the woman was actually killed by a baby.

I knew there was a reason I didn’t like sunbathing!

UPDATE: An autopsy has determined that the victim, Judy Zagorski, died of blunt force head injury from colliding with the stingray. She suffered “multiple skull fractures and direct brain injury resulting in sudden death,” Jorge Pino, spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, is quoted as saying. Ms. Zagorski was on the boat with her mother, sister, and 88-year-old father, who was driving the boat.
